Great stuff as usual, Kantis. TY for helping us focus better in our study time. I agree that keeping your study environment clean and organized is just as important as keeping the information you are studying organized.
As a single woman, headed for a successful career and a life of solitude, I made a decision to change some things that changed me and my destiny in life forever. Now I am blessedly married. Hope you’ll check this post out.
My kids and I have truly fallen head over heals for music being put out by this awesome high-quality male vocal group – 21:03.
If you love good quality inspirational music, take a listen and get hooked like we did. Enjoy!
Loving the new Disqus commenting and sharing feature on the Atlanta Illini blog. Win or lose tonight, I hope to see some awesome comments from all of our Fighting Illini supporters.
It’s so important to live without assaulting your own conscience. If you have doubts about something…if it doesn’t resonate with you, then why keep doing it?
And on the other side, why neglect the things that you do care about…living according to what matters most to me is so important.
I am through with doing or not doing things based on others’ opinions and/or ideas of what is “normal”.
At this point in my life, I realize that our family’s life is a lot less than normal because we have an untraditional schedule, more than two kids, and, most of all, because we homeschool.
So, comparing myself to other friends and family is totally useless. However, forming relationships with those who are similar, such as homeschool families, has proven to be a true blessing for me.
Apology To @devorahf and All:
Please forgive me, no offense was intended by my comment. Most of my family members are very intelligent and have no degrees. Also, I am way far from perfect despite my education. So, I was not speaking as a snob.
However, I was speaking from the perspective of one who has been trained in the scientific method, which states that you must be careful to use only peer-reviewed academic resources when doing certain types of research. If a serious researcher is not careful, their own research comes into question based on the resources they have used.
The article implied that Wikipedia contributors don’t fit into the “peer reviewed” mold. Also, while in graduate school, I found that wikipedia is not accepted as a legitimate resource for official research by most professors and academic programs.
Please Join Us! Together, Let's Close the Digital Divide.
This week, on September 22, people all over the world are celebrating OneWebDay.
Founded by Susan Crawford, who now advises President Obama on science, technology, and innovation policy, OneWebDay is a global event which is celebrated every September 22 since 2006. Much like Earth Day, which inspired it, OneWebDay provides an opportunity for communities to celebrate the power of Web for positive change, to take action to protect what is precious about it, and to educate the public and policy-makers on key social, economic, and political Web issues.
This year’s theme — One Web. For All — is all about digital inclusion, digital literacy, and working to close the digital divide. OneWebDay organizers are calling attention to efforts that work to ensure that anyone who wants it has access to the Internet and the skills they need to engage in our new communications environment.
The fight for digital inclusion is now on the cutting edge in the long struggle for social and economic justice. Access to a fast, affordable, and open Internet is essential for every child in school, every entrepreneur with a new idea, and anyone who wants full access to our government and the democratic process.
To show my support for OneWebDay and digital inclusion efforts, I have signed the 2009 pledge to Free the Internet and End the Digital Divide. I hope you will join me and help to spread the word.

One is an expert in generating leads and attracting opportunities using social networking. (Plus, she has a 3 year proven track record using social media successfully!)
The other is an immensely talented “enrollment” expert who teaches clients how to stop selling and start enrolling. Her strategies have helped her clients add 5 and 6 figures to their income without pushing or hard selling.
Their names are Nancy Marmolejo of Viva Visibility (my mentor) and Natasha Allrich of Enroll from the Soul. Both of these awesome women are unique, as women of color (like me), and already successfully share from their own unique perspectives. They are real and stay true to their ownselves while sharing their businesses with thousands.
Nancy and Natasha discovered their talents are a perfect match for entrepreneurs ready to make serious money using social networking.
On July 29, they’re partnering for a one-time-only free teleseminar that you don’t want to miss!
“The 4 Hidden Secrets to Turn Your Social Networking Visibility Into a Steady Stream of Profitability…without EVER Having to Push, Pressure, Spam or Pitch”
(In a hurry? Go ahead and reserve your spot here: bit.ly/ssales)
On this groundbreaking call, they’ll reveal:

==> And much more!
Here’s that link again so you can reserve your spot. This is a HOT topic and sign ups are filling. Be sure to grab your spot while they last:
P.S. If you’ve spent any time on Facebook or Twitter, then you may know first hand that making $$ from your many connections isn’t always easy. Let Nancy and Natasha walk you through their 4 Secrets to show you how!
Chris, as usual, you’re being a great help to the twitterverse. You are one of the main soc.med. experts that I follow because you’re usually on point. You have said here many of the things I was thinking/doing but just didn’t write down, yet.
My 2-cents on this:
[1-cent] Learn how to use automated tools WISELY. In other words, if you don’t know what you’re doing, leave automated twitter tools alone. Twitter is starting to monitor more closely and enforce their terms of service more strictly. You don’t want to have your account suspended or deleted and end up losing all of those awesome contacts that you have made. I speak from experience on this, as well, and have changed my usage to line up more closely with twitter’s T.O.S.
[2-cents] The following are serious pet peeves! (plus unethical and may even be T.O.S. violations): *do not use an automated tool to post the twitter usernames of those who have followed or unfollowed you in the open, public tweet stream *do not create such types of public tweet streams, as you will be alienating all those whose privacy you’ve violated, unless they just love being publically outed by a third party, which is highly unlikely *unless you have the author’s consent, it also may be unwise to pull from another feed stream, like mybloglog, and place the information into the twitter stream; I have seen this with companies who specialize in creating buzz on behalf of their clients
Chris Anderson’s awesome book, “Free”, is about a vitally important message for modern day business success. This is a must read if you’re serious about becoming successful. See Chris’ video discussing the book on Wired.com.
If you haven’t yet read this book, then please take the time to do so now and/or this week. Putting off reading it, in my opinion, is equivalent to putting off your success.
I’m keeping this message brief so that I can finish reading it, as I want to keep practicing what I preach.

Background information:
My twitter network currently has over 2,000 followers. I have achieved a level of certifiable “success” in online social networking. This is because I consistently make time to learn, from real experts, how to use twitter, and other modes of social networking, more effectively. I also provide free help to others who are getting started or just want to become more effective.
Despite all of this, my twitter account was suspended, temporarily.
Not to worry, it was restored immediately, once I emailed my concerns to twitter, as instructed on twitter’s support website.
While on our date today in Atlanta, my husband and I heard some (pretty good) jazz music playing. But they don’t play music on the MARTA train. I looked over and saw a jazzy looking guy who’d just sat down (he had a gotee). My husband told me that this guy was actually playing a cd player. The guy then turned off the music and asked other passengers and us if we like jazz. I told him yes. He stated that he had a few cd’s left for $5.
I didn’t buy one, but gave him my card and told him that I help people learn how to market themselves. He asked me how is he doing so far and gave me his card, as well. I told him that I think he’s very gutsy and that it’s obvious he really believes in himself because he’s putting himself out there in a bold way. And I told him that I really like his music, as well.
I definitely believe he sets an excellent example of pre-success. Someone that doesn’t know him or doesn’t like jazz may not get it. But I get it. He’s doing what it takes, and as long as he keeps at it, he’ll see his dreams fulfilled.

If you’re asking yourself, “How in the world does she manage almost 2,000 twitter followers and still have a life?”
One secret is that I use what the experts use to make twitter account management flow more smoothly: tweetlater.com
I love tweetlater because they are excellent and always improving their offerings and making my job easier and easier. Their app is not in beta form (it’s already been tested and tried), is relatively easy to use, and enhances my enjoyment of my overall twitter experience, as well.

There is much alarm and discussion in the blogosphere and social-network-sphere this month about Facebook’s TOS. To read details see their blog.
This is a great discussion piece and illustration of why not to put all of your “eggs in one basket”. Facebook, though it’s made itself extremely convenient and useful, is not the only place you should post online if you are a serious blogger.
Also, you should always have your own main website or blog that you own exclusive rights to.
If you’d like to get involved in crafting our new terms, you can start posting your questions, comments and requests in the group we’ve created—Facebook Bill of Rights and Responsibilities. I’m looking forward to reading your input.

Facebook and LinkedIn are each some of what Scobel and Cantone called them (rolodex2.0 and email2.0).
But, they also transcend that because they actually allow you to develop real relationships in real time without having to schedule an appointment or interrupt someone’s (or your own) workflow.
And now, Twitter is also, in my opinion, just as powerful as both, but in a different, simpler, and easier to manage way.
Also, as a twitter user, I stumbled upon another simple, yet valuable tool at
Basically, I can combine and integrate all of my web2.0 use on that one little page. It’s a very simple and easy to use tool with valuable, key information.
Facebook has also been doing an excellent job of providing ways to integrate everything, but so many choices can quickly become unmanageable and overwhelming. Of course, LinkedIn has been improving in the arena of web2.0 integration, as well; and LI users need to pay close attention to the newest changes and incorporate them into their profiles and groups.
Because of the fact that everyone has their favorite social media sites, it’s so important for business owners and entrepreneurs to position themselves wherever their clients may be and to make themselves relatively simple to locate online, as well.
And, most importantly, the gurus of web2.0 are going to be found in the places that I’ve listed here. These are the people that have learned how to make web2.0 a viable tool for themselves; that can teach how to customize it to your particular needs (i.e., for great nonprofit advice you need to be on twitter); and for the newest web2.0 and beyond innovations, you need to be there so that you can keep up.
The world has changed fairly rapidly since the www was invented; but this is nothing compared to the exponential changes we are now seeing with the advent of the social networking (web2.0) internet growth phase. Don’t get left behind.
